Re: Getting hired with no experience

Just remember, that this job is NOT want Live PD or Cops represents. Yes, everyday you come in you will see something different, but there are a lot more days where you will not. Hopefully you can get picked up in a department where the Admin backs you up, but the unfortunate reality is most do not....

Morale: Bad.
Pay: Bad.
Experience: Good.

Word of advice, get your cert and leave. It's hands down the easiest academy in the state. Camden County used to have an amazing reputation and it's been tarnished. Good luck.

Re: Getting hired with no experience

Hey guys, I’m 24 years old and currently a heavy equipment operator with plans to pursue law enforcement as a career. I have many friends and family in this field and recently have decided this is what I want to do with my life. Is it a bad thing that I don’t have any prior experience ? Do you thin...

Re: Patrol vs courts for county sheriffs day to day

I'm not 100% sure, but most people who work for the county sheriff's normally do court duty their first year or so. Then you have the opportunity to apply to another division. Those that stay in the court after that year, are normally guys ready to retire, or older employee's in my experience.

Re: 12 Hour Schedule

I know a few departments who were on 8's before switching to 12's, but they unfortunately had to lose some benefits to get them. So they work the 12 hour pitman, On: M,T Off: W, Th On: Fri, Sa, Su <- similar to that. Instead of getting the comp time or OT they rolled the extra hours into their top e...

Re: Taser Training

I am most likely going to be picked up by a department in North Jersey that uses tasers. I have heard multiple answers from different officers through out the state. If I become a part of this department where every officer has to carry a taser do they shock you in taser training? Some officers say...

Re: SLEO II

I was thinking about going the SLEO II route so that I don’t have to wait years to get into a full-time officer basic training academy. How successful are most SLEO II with getting full time jobs through a waiver, does it happen often? I feel that if it is fairly common, it may be the easier route ...
