Re: Next academy class start date ?

I was in 243. I recommend you practice pushups, situps, squat thrusts(burpees), holding a plank, squats, jumping jacks, and arm circles which is holding out your arms at full extension and moving them in circles (sounds easy but doing 300 of those is killer)

Re: State corrections Salary/ compensation

Corrections opens up other law enforcement opportunities to a very slight extent. We dont have a full PTC certification therefore we cannot transfer to municipal departments, state police, or port authority. Someone working in Corrections would still have to get certified by their township's police ...

Re: Physical Requirements?

Trust me. The running starts off really low level at first, maybe 1.5 to 2 miles for atleast the first few weeks. It gradually increases and I know A-group's runs towards the end are atleast 5.5-6 miles, not sure about 8. I was in C-group and I can assure you our most extreme run towards the very en...

Re: Physical Requirements?

PT is everday. It rotates. One day is running, the next day is calisthenics, and so on so forth. If you can run 5 miles comfortably then trusttt me you'll be more than fine. During the assessment on the first friday, they use your time from the 1.5 mile run to split you into running groups (A, B, an...

Re: Physical Requirements?

If you fail any part of the assessment on that first friday, you retake it 2 weeks later on the 3rd friday. If you fail again, you're out. Also each day for the 14 weeks you have PT. If they decide you aren't participating enough, you can get a 0 for the day. Rack up 10 of those and you're out too. ...

Re: Physical Requirements?

During the "phases", no. Once you pass medical/physical evals (phase 4), you have a PT orientation 2 weeks before academy. Its a light 20 minute workout just to give you a taste. You do situps, pushups, JJs for maybe 10 mins and run a mile at a slow pace. Pretty easy. Then on the first friday of aca...

Re: Tenafly PD (Bergen County)

It is a fair process. Anyone else saying otherwise is incorrect. Yes there is an application (test) fee, however that is standard among every dept. in the area. Make it through the test and PT without getting knocked out and you will be given a fair shake at the interviews. Also, anyone who says th...

Pension/Retirement Question

This may or may not be a ridiculous question but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has wondered about this. It is a known fact that most departments require at least 25 years of service to receive a pension that equals X% of your final salary, or 30 years for a slightly higher percentage. If for wha...
