Full Time Police Officer
(NJPTC Certified/Alternate Route/Transfer from another agency)
The Long Hill Township Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of full-time Police Officer. Applicants must have graduated from a New Jersey Police Training Commission certified law enforcement academy and be in possession of a New Jersey Police Training Commission certificate for BCPO. Applicants will be subject to a thorough background investigation. Candidates must also submit to and pass both a medical and psychological evaluation.
Under the immediate supervision of a Police Sergeant, performs basic law enforcement duties in the protection and safeguarding of life and property, the prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals and the preservation of peace in compliance with governing federal, state and local laws. Arrest and detain persons. Protect crime scene and collect evidence and information. Enforce DUI Traffic Laws and investigate traffic accidents. Investigate and perform tasks and duties as required by law and departmental policies. Operate patrol vehicle safely and within established guidelines. Execute motor vehicle stops. Conduct search and seizure. Use physical force/exertion. Write accurate and factual police reports. Conduct initial investigation of various crimes and events. Crisis intervention and conflict resolution. Perform general and directed patrol duties. Patrol a specified section on foot or in a police cruiser. Check doors and windows on business establishments and schools. Escort prisoners to Court/Jail. Provide testimony in court. Direct traffic. Give information concerning the location of streets, routes and buildings. Controls crowds at fires, accidents and other scenes attracting a large group. Instruct in police in-service training when assigned. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Identify and solve problems. Interact with and assist residents and other community members in maintaining an orderly and safe community. Serve as a positive role model for children and youth. Perform all functions in compliance with United States and New Jersey Constitution and applicable laws. Be truthful at all times. Perform other related duties as assigned.

ABOUT LONG HILL TOWNSHIP
The Township consists of four communities: the villages of Gillette, Millington and Stirling, and the hamlet of Meyersville. Homestead Park is the name of the first subdivision in the Township developed in the 1920's.
Long Hill Township is located in the most southern part of Morris County, New Jersey. It is bounded by the Passaic River on the south and west, and by the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge on the north. It borders both Union and Somerset Counties.
Long Hill Township has a population of about 9,000 residents and is about 12.13 square miles. 55% of the Township consists of vacant land, parks, conservation and open space areas, due principally to the existence of wetlands, flood plains and steep slopes. 47% of the township is public parkland.

Our Department consists of a close-knit group of 23 officers, with a large percentage of senior officers approaching retirement.
Our Department has an outdoor range, allowing for convenient access to personalized training.

Applicants must have at least 60 College Credits or 3 years of military experience concluding with an honorable discharge
Applicants must possess a current New Jersey Police Training Commission (NJPTC) Certificate for BCPO (No waivers are being accepted at this time for SLEO CLASS II)
Be a United States Citizen
Be a resident of New Jersey
Hold a valid New Jersey driver’s license
Have the ability to read, write and speak the English language clearly and intelligently
Have and demonstrate good moral character and have not been convicted of any crime constituting an indictable offense or any offense involving moral turpitude; verified by a background investigation
Pass an oral interview
Pass a psychological examination
Pass a drug test
Pass a medical screening
Pass a physical agility test
Meet all qualifications of N.J.S.A. 40A:14-146 et seq.
