Hey guys, I’m thinking of taking a couple of private lessons at a range before the academy. What kind of shotgun and handgun is used in the DCJ Parole academy?

There is no shotgun used and handgun is dependent on what agency sends you. For the sake of Parole though, it’s a Glock 19 4th gen

Trust me, you don't need long gun lessons. It's impossible to fail shotgun and rifle quals during any academy.

For firearms testing, do you remember what the farthest shooting distance required was to pass? Specifically for Parole...I’m gonna let my instructor know

The course is the same for everyone. The furthest you'll shoot for the handgun quals is 12 rounds at the 25. You do three rounds of 60 rounds for 180 total. You need to do at the minimum 80% to pass.

I'd advise against shooting before hand if you have no experience. The academy has very good instructors who will get you up to speed. Other than shooting with a buddy one time years before I had no firearms experience and did really well. Best to not pick up any bad habits.

No one has posted in this forum for a while but wanted to reach out.

I recently received the packet from parole to being the hiring process, as i ranked 19th. The academy tentatively was to start in July. I ended up withdrawing my application for several reasons but was wondering if anyone else got the information from parole and if they were going to go through the hiring process.
