They have funding to hire 100 officers for 2021. First it was gonna be 160 but didn’t have enough money in the budget so they dropped to 100 for the year. Mayor wants a 1,200 man force.Genius2o1 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 1:58 pmIf you ranked below 100 then you would already had orientation to know they need that many officers by the end of 2021. I wouldnt get on here and share false information. Dont worry about my rank...just wait to get called for you to recieve the same information!

Different county than where you’re from but where I was no one could wait for an opportunity to throw each other under the bus. IA’s for silly stuff that any normal department would squash. Some Judge’s make your job extremely difficult.JRittz wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 10:42 amInteresting. If you don’t mind me asking, what makes you say that?BlueLine wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 8:45 amI’ve worked DOC, Sheriff’s and a PD. It’s a Monday to Friday job with weekends off/holidays off and you can work on weekends for overtime. They do have units like patrol, K9, detective, narcotics, etc. But it take a few years to get there. Sheriffs is also less likely for layoffs and budget cuts cause the county has a ton of money unlike many city departments, so job security is A1. However, it’s hard to get onto sheriffs, and most people won’t ever get a sheriff cert since they only take vets and highest test scorers. You don’t get a cert from sheriffs everyday, but you’ll get most likely get a few regular municipal department certs per test cycle. Also sheriffs has a a lot of officers from former departments.
At the end of the day do I miss my cozy M-F job? Yes. But I also wanted to do something with my career other than sitting in the corner of a court room kissing a judges ass.

Yep. All about perspective. A lot of guys in sheriffs are former vets who've been deployed and stuff like that and prefer a M-F type job. So they're happy with that. Few wanna go to a PD and try that. But its usually to a chiefs towns or medium sized civil service towns. Not usually the big pds that have big turnover rates like Newark, Camden, East Orange, etc.BlueLine wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 8:45 amI’ve worked DOC, Sheriff’s and a PD. Yep I feel that 100%. Not leaving for a big PD but I would be open to a chiefs town or something like that. Doubt civil service gonna pull thru for me b/c where I live.BlueLine wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 2:42 pmDifferent county than where you’re from but where I was no one could wait for an opportunity to throw each other under the bus. My advice to everyone is just get on the job and get your pension started. Whether its DOC, PD, Sheriff's whatever. After a few years of experience you can take the test again and transfer or do whatever. I know a friend from the 2016 LEE test who was waiting for the "right" department and passed on other certs where he probably would've got hired. Long story short, he's still waiting to get on the job and didn't score that well this test cycle, while I have a few years in the pension already.

So your age doesn't matter once you are in a department and want to switch later on?stickman363 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 4:57 pm My advice to everyone is just get on the job and get your pension started. I received a 76 on the civil service exam. Is there a chance that I will be called by Camden County before the next test?

Wow That’s a long time to be waiting. Yea I’m a 97.xx. I’m hoping by possibly early 2021 or summer to get a cert. I mean I would think to score in the 97’s is good enough.

Yea im sure 97 n up will get u a cert.. I actually know of another Sergeant in my unit who is currently doing the academy for Hudson county Sheriff, But shes doing it online until January.. Its crazy how some sheriff in NJ hires people pretty quick and some takes a long time to even finish the hiring process.. N im not sure if it sucks or its a good thing to do some of your academy classes from home and then go in towards the end of the academy to learn hands on. Cuz thats what really must academy are doing now.. With the covid stuff it might even be the new thing now all across NJ..Giants12 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 4:21 amWow That’s a long time to be waiting. Yea I’m a 97.xx.
