Bergen County Alternate Route Program

2018 Bergen County "Alternate Route Program" Exam Announced: The staff at the Bergen County Police Academy announced the application period for candidates wishing to compete for a slot in the police academy through the "Alternate Route Program." This is a tremendous opportunity for those who desire a career in law enforcement. The process is EXTREMELY competitive and begins with the administration of a very competitive written exam (scored) on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, followed by a physical agility assessment (pass/fail) on Thursday, March 22, 2018, and an oral panel interview (scored) in late March/Early April.

To enter the Bergen County competitive process, interested candidates MUST attend a MANDATORY open-attendance meeting on either Wednesday, February 21, 2018 or Saturday, February 24, 2018 to obtain a formal application. The academy is then ONLY ACCEPTING the first 240 applications completed and returned starting Monday, February 26th, 2018 (no sooner). As a reminder, Dr. David A. Paprota, Ed.D. (Chief of Police, Ret.) of CCS Test Prep® is conducting a FREE 3-hour seminar at the Bergen County Police Academy on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. The seminar is to educate candidates regarding the various tests and hiring processes being used around NJ for entry-level law enforcement. 2018 Bergen County Alt Route Exam Rescheduled

Due to the impending storm, the Bergen County Police Academy has rescheduled the Alternate Route Exam for Friday, March 9, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. They posted on the website as the official notice, so candidates should not expect an email notification,

2019 Bergen County Alternate Route Program

The staff at the Bergen County Police Academy announced the 2019 application process for the "Alternate Route Program." The written exam is scheduled for Monday, March 11, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the academy (only 240 applications will be accepted), followed by only the candidates who achieve among the top 40 tests scores going on to a physical agility assessment (scored) on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Only the top 30 candidates after the written and physical will go on to the oral panel interview (scored) in April.

To enter the Bergen County competitive process, interested candidates MUST attend a MANDATORY open-attendance meeting on either Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. or Monday, February 25, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. to obtain a formal application. The academy is then ONLY ACCEPTING the first 240 applications completed and returned starting Thursday, February 28th, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. (no sooner).

The academy has announced that they anticipate filling 5 slots per academy class (July 2019 and January of 2020).
