The Atlantic County Police Academy has announced they are accepting 80 applications via PoliceApp.com (https://www.policeapp.com/Entry-Level-A ... -Jobs/714/) for candidates to compete for slots in the Alternate Route Program. The deadline is set for October 28, 2018, but it will actually close out very soon, as the 80 applicant max will be met quickly. THIS PROCESS IS VERY FAIR. They generally only have one class that starts in April. The physical (after the written) is pass/fail. They score both the written and the oral to form a list, then they follow the list in offering slots regardless of what county you reside within. The most recent class had ARP candidates from Morris, Passaic, Middlesex, and Ocean Counties.

Do they use the typical short form test?

They did last year. They are providing the study guide to candidates which verifies which exam.
Re: Atlantic County Alternate Route Program
Does anybody know how many alternate route candidates get put through the academy from this process on average?

Re: Atlantic County Alternate Route Program
It sometimes depends on the size of the class itself, but it is my understanding that as far as non-vets, they try to put through 8 alternate route candidates.
As with other academies, sometimes selected candidates back out last minute, fail the psych, get hired by a department before the start of the academy, get injured before the academy, or simply accept a slot in a different academy, and the academy does not have time to process additional candidates. That often contributes to less alternate route candidates being in a class than was otherwise expected.
Ocean County is the most recent example of this. They processed 8 non-vets to attend under the alternate route program, but only 4 actually entered the academy.
