Stay where you are. I wouldn’t take that big of a pay cut to go to corrections. You say you work weekends and holidays now, it won’t be any different in corrections. Pay scale is 4K a year and that’s if they don’t get frozen. Which they were for 4 years. You absolutely can not negotiate your salary. It is a PBA contract and you cannot be guaranteed overtime. You’ll come across overtime depending on the jail but I wouldn’t rely on getting in consistently every week. As others have said, you’ll be working 2-10 with Tuesday/wends most likely for about a year. Some jails you won’t see weekends on first shift for a very long time.

Thanks BlueLine. I was also wondering what is exactly is the 2 week in service training after the academy? what does it involve?
Shadowing a CO for two weeks. Once you do those two weeks you’re thrown to the wolves more or less.

you'll mostly be jumping between 1st and 2nd, maybe one night training on third. Second shift will more than likely be home for AWHILE.

How often are rookies offered OT? Or does it depend on the facility?

First and second, no third shift. Third shift doesn't do anything, you'll figure it out when you get stuck for a double onto third shift all the time.

It's hard to explain but you get called for overtime based off how much overtime you've worked. Why you're so eager to spend 16 hour inside a prison I don't know, I could barely do the 8 everyday.

Ok. Just curious if there will be chances to make more than just the base salary being that it's not much. That's if I make it through all the phases! Appreciate the feedback.

Hey Jersey,

Can you be more specific? ( you stated that its in the talks? There a jump to 60K? Please share in more details as I have orientation coming up soon, and Wish to know more what am heading into in regards to salary. As 33 and 40K are completely sub-par.

State only offered 8% in 4 years 2% every year for every step and cwa medical which is trash .. so pba proposed cwa medical and a one time increase of 15 k or 20k plus 2% every step every year for 4 years . So don’t get ur hopes up state most likely will say no to that . Next meeting March 12
